Autograph musical quotation, 8 BARS FROM ACT III OF DER ROSENKAVALIER , the beginning of the Marschallin's aria 'Habe mirs gelobt, ihn lieb zu haben in der richtigen Weis', in three systems, for voice and orchestra in short score, including the text and indication 'Marschallin', on a leaf 92 x 244mm, laid down; signed on facing page ('Richard Strauss'), Frankfurt[-am-Main], 21 August 1927, beneath a portrait postcard of the composer. Other musical quotations are supplied by Wilhelm FURTWÄNGLER (four bars from an unidentified work), Wilhelm Backhaus (with a signed photograph), Eugen d'Albert (with a signed photograph), Arthur Nikisch (with a signed portrait engraving), Artur Schnabel, Bruno Walter, John Barbirolli, Yehudi Menuhin, Pablo Casals (London, 1945), Alfred Cortot, Edwin Fischer, Arthur Rubinstein, Myra Hess, Isaac Stern, Mstislav Rostropovich, Sviatoslav Richter and others, as well as letters by Carl Ebert and others, and signatures of Arturo Toscanini, Otto Klemperer, Paul Hindemith and others, the majority of items laid down, Frankfurt-am-Main, London and elsewhere, 1916-1963, on 59 leaves of an album, 4to, leather-backed cloth. Provenance : many of the contributions are inscribed to Beatrice Oppenheim (née Salomon), and the album bears her ex-libris.
