Autograph letter on Buckingham Palace stationery from Princess Mary, daughter of George V and Mary of Teck, to Mr. Harman Oates, dated "December 16th 1920" and signed "Mary" at foot; Princess Mary thanks him "for the charming old box you have given me for Xmas and for which I am most grateful". Horizontal fold, ink slightly faded, 8vo; original envelope addressed in Princess Mary's hand. ***F.A. Harman Oates was keeper of the London Museum from 1919 to 1926, as well as a renown collector of historical pieces of jewellery, many of which are now in the Victoria and Albert Museum and other English cultural institutions. Princess Mary received Oates's gift after her visit to Lancaster House, then home of the London Museum.
