Title: Autograph letter signed to L.L. Bras of the Hamburg American Line Author: Marconi, Guglielmo Place: Hoffmann House Hotel, New York City Publisher: Date: 23 October 1899 Description: Autograph letter signed, "G. Marconi" in brown ink, 2½ pp. In English. 8x5". Business letter from Marconi to the General Manager of the Hamburg American Line, recommending him to meet with Marconi's Co-Director, W.W. Goodbody. Marconi writes, "I fear I shall not be able to have the pleasure of meeting you before the end of this week as I am staying on board the Cruiser New York for government tests." Marconi was 25-years old at the time of writing this letter. Three years earlier he had been granted the world's first patent for a system of wireless telegraphy. 1899 was the year that he established wireless communication between France and England across the English Channel. Included in this lot is a stock certificate for 5 shares in the Marconi Wireless Telegraph Company, dated 1919. Lot Amendments Condition: Touch of darkening to letter; about fine.
