The work consists of a series of very fine delineations of disease, executed partly by means of colored line engraving, partly in stipple retouched in watercolor. The work is highly regarded, not only for its accuracy of detail, but as a superb example of illustration in colors. Only two complete copies of the first edition are located in the United States: in The Library of the Medical and Chirurgical Faculty of Maryland and at the Bernard Becker Medical Library, St. Louis. Only a fragment of several livraisons containing 20 plates has appeared at auction in the last 30 years: Christie's New York, 9 June 1999 ($4,500). Not in Garrison-Morton, Norman, Osler, Wellcome.
