Babe Ruth Sinclair Oil Contest Collection Including Signed Radio Script Following his playing career, one of Ruth's major endorsements during the late 1930's was with the Sinclair Refining Company. This partnership resulted in Ruth hosting a weekly radio baseball program sponsored by the company as well as company sponsored contests, whereby significant prizes were awarded including 2 automobiles, 20 RCA victor auto radios, and 500 baseballs autographed by Babe Ruth. Surviving examples of those baseballs have proven to be "secretarially" signed much to the chagrin of their would-be benefactors. Offered here is the ultimate compilation of items representing Ruth's promotional endeavor with Sinclair. The lot includes: 1.) Pair of original (1937) two-sided contest entry forms offered by Sinclair refining company with transmittal envelope. To enter, the contestant had to write a one-line slogan for "Opaline Motor Oil". The back of the forms have baseball playing tips by Babe Ruth. 2.) Three different magazine advertisements picturing Babe Ruth each with contest details. 3.) Large (23 ½ by 21 ½ inches) display poster announcing contest winners. 4.) ONL (Frick) baseball secretarially signed, "Sincerely Babe Ruth". Ball is stamped "Sinclair Babe Ruth Baseball Contest" and was originally awarded as a contest prize. 5.) Fourteen page radio script, 8.5 x 11 inches, dated April 14, 1937, signed on the first page in fountain pen, "Sincerely, Babe Ruth." Broadcast over the CBS radio network, the program featured Ruth discussing baseball with his co-host, while promoting the Sinclair Company. This particular script provides details about the Sinclair essay contest, which offered 500 baseballs autographed by Babe Ruth among its prizes. Also, later in the script, Ruth makes his American League final standings predictions (not surprisingly picking the Yankees to finish first). Interestingly, this script closes with a reenactment of Ruth's famous home run in the 1932 World Series, offering evidence that Ruth himself actively perpetuated the legend of his "called shot".
