BALDACCHINI, Filippo. Stanze] Ad ... Silviu[m] Passerium Corytanu[m] pontificalem secretariu[m] . Perugia: Cosmus Blanchinus, 1514. Small 4° (209 x 141mm). Large woodcut arms of Leo X on last page, one woodcut initial. 19th-century floral boards (spine a little worn). Provenance : Giacomo Manzoni (book-label); Giuseppe Martini (bookseller, note in his hand). FIRST and only edition of this extremely rare collection of eight poems dedicated to the author's fellow citizen, the papal secretary and protonotary, and eight poems dedicated to Agostino Spinola. Baldacchini was born at Cortona in the second half of the 15th century of a noble Tuscan family. After a long career at the papal court where he performed many important undertakings for Leo X and Clement VII (and briefly became bishop of Assisi) he retired to Cortona, married, and became the city's ambassador to Florence. When not yet fifty, he was murdered on the highway. EXTREMELY RARE. Not in Censimento, Sander/Rava, BLSTC, etc.
