FIRST EDITIONS. Including: The Pursuit of the House-Boat ... under the Leadership of Sherlock Holmes , 1897, inscribed 'I used Sherlock Holmes in this book with the permission of Conan Doyle. We both thought he was dead - but he still lives'. The Bicyclers and Three Other Farces , 1896, 'Shakespeare was clever but he never wrote plays like these'. The Enchanted Type-Writer , 1896, 'A perfect specimen of machine-made humor!'. Peeps at People , 1899, 'I have been told that Digs at Dignitaries would have been a better title for this book'. R.
