Baron de Colins early-19th-Century Still life including Alcea rosea (Hollyhocks) ; Rudbeckia pinnata ; Delphinium grandiflorum (Delphinium); Convolvulus tricolor (Morning Glory); Rosa alba ; Rosa centifolia ; Rosa hemisphaerica (Rose); Paeonia lactiflora (Peony); Succisa pratensis (Devil's-bit); Scabiosa atropurpurea (Mournful Widow); Callistephus chinensis (Chinese Aster); Centaurea cyanus (Cornflowers); Tulipa var. (Tulip); Alstroemeria peregrina ; and Calendula officinalis (Marigold) and the butterfly Vanessa atalanta (Red Admiral) signed and inscribed 'A Monsieur E de Girardin/souvenir de son plus sincre ami/Le B o n de Colins' (lower right) pencil and watercolour, heightened with bodycolour and gum arabic, on a prepared dark-grey ground, on vellum laid on canvas 29 x 24 in.
