Engraved title, 1p. manuscript index of the constellation figures bound in before the title, 50 double-page engraved plates only (of 51, lacking plate K of constellation figures), comprising 47 plates of the constellation figures, one of the constellations of the celestial southern hemisphere, and two of the star patterns of each hemisphere, on guards, each constellation plate with vellum alphabetical index tab. (Title cleanly torn at lower corner, 'Lupus plate' torn away at upper corner with loss, two wormholes affecting lower blank margin throughout, several vellum tabs torn away.) 18th-century calf (rebacked, spine restored). Second edition of the first important star atlas, based on Tycho Brahe's Astronomia instaurata , 1598, comprising clear large illustrations of the constellation figures and including the newly discovered constellations of the southern hemisphere.
