Title: Beatitude - thirteen volumes Author: Place: North Beach, San Francisco Publisher: Beatitude and City Lights Date: 1960-2009 Description: 13 volumes in wrappers. Various paginations. First Editions. Present issues signed by Lawrence Ferlinghetti and other contributors. Bob Kaufman began Beatitude magazine in 1959 with John Kelley, and William Margolis. Beatitude published many poets not considered acceptable by the established publishers of the era, many for the first time. The original magazines were 8.5x11" stapled mimeographed sheets, with an illustrated front cover of construction paper and no back cover, originally selling for 20 or 30 cents an issue. Although the first incarnation of the magazine only published 17 issues, it has resurfaced in various formats over the years, and has had a lasting impact on the Beat literary movement nationally. Over the years the magazine has published work by nearly all of the major figures in the Beat Movement. Includes: Beatitude Anthology. Signed by David Meltzer, Lenore Kandel, Lawrence Ferlinghetti and Ruth Weiss, with an inscription by Weiss, with an arrow pointing to Ferlinghett'is signature: "He paid me $2 for the poem in here." 1960.
