A hand-painted inscription on the backboard of the frame reads Betsy L. Richmond / Born September 25 1799 / AE 11 years. Present- / Painted by Benjn Greenleaf / February the 17 1811. An additional pencil inscription on the backboard reads This picture was Sister Hannah when she was / 5 years old but this frame belongs to / Sister Betsys picture which was broken. Provenance: Property from the Collection of Dr. James and Betty Sutherland, Cincinnati, OH Condition: Large diagonal crack to glass.
