BERNIE KRIGSTEIN Original Art: BULLFIGHT, c.1960

Estimate
US$1,000 - US$1,500
Price realised:
US$625
Beschreibung:

Pen, brush and ink with grey wash on art board, measuring approx. 21½x13½" including margins, matted and framed to 30x26". Excellent condition, not inspected out of frame, small drip spot to top margin, apparently from the artist's own brush. Signed in bottom right margin: "B. Krigstein." Provenance: "My father, Lee Drucker, was once a friend of Bernie Krigstein, and is acknowledged in Greg Sadowski's biography of Krigstein. I believe the drawing was a gift from Bernie to my dad, and I inherited it when my dad died in 2001" - R. Drucker, consignor. Bull Fighter: "My ambition... was to be what is humorously described as a 'fine artist.' I use that term with a great deal of question because it's a lot of bull... I don't think there's much difference in any of the fields... all the arts are part of one big phenomenon." — B. Krigstein addressing Boston NewCon, 1978 (his sole comic convention appearance), quoted in Greg Sadowski's B. Krigstein Volume One (Fantagraphics: 2002), p. 1. A limited edition of 150 softcover and 15 hardcover catalogues is available. 400 lots, fully illustrated. Fun reference, great keepsake. Softcover $30, deluxe hardcover with dust jacket and limitation plate $200. Ten of the 15 hardcovers are pre-ordered and the rest will go quickly, so reserve yours now.
