BETJEMAN, JOHN. Four autograph manuscripts (two signed) on aspects of London architecture: Charing Cross Road; Ivy House, Golders Green; Davies and Son, Hanover Street; and The Pheasantry, Kings Road. Together 4 pages, folio, in ink on lined paper, with numerous revisions, one margin irregularly chipped, one manuscript with an ANS by Betjeman to Richard Buckle at bottom, another signed by Betjeman with a flourish and small sketch. The prose pieces were published in successive number of Ballet (edition by richard Buckle during the first half of 1952 -- BETJEMAN. Three autograph letters signed and one typed letter signed to Richard Buckle Mostly written from Wantage, Berks, 9 October 1951-6 May 1952. Together 4 pages, 8vo, with a related letter from a Betjeman secretary. Mainly relating to the Betjeman architectural articles -- [BETJEMAN]. THOMAS, DAVID. Four original pen and ink drawings illustrating the last three of the architectural subjects noted above (Ivy House, Davies and Sons, and The Pheasantry) plus No. 6 Connaught Square, sizes range from 7 x 10¼in. (175 x 260mm.) to 12¾ x 10¼in. (325 x 260mm), on stiff board or art paper, three of the drawings signed and three captioned -- BETJEMAN. Autograph poetical manuscript, an arostic on the name of Telford, by "The Revd. Archibald Oldys, A.M., St Alban Hall, Oxon." One page, folio, in ink on ruled paper, the initial letter of each line highlighted, with pencilled notes on verso. With a TLS from Betjeman to Richard Buckle London, 27 May 1959, 1 p., 8vo, thanking him for a cheque in payment for the Telford poem. The verso was written for the catalogue of the Telford Centenary exhibition at the Institute of Civil Engineers in 1956; the author's true identity was later revealed in a newspaper.
