Text double column, ruled throughout in red. (Small marginal tear on M11 with loss of a few letters, a few head-lines and catchwords shaved, imprint partly crossed out on TT12v.) Binding : 17th-century English black gilt-panelled goatskin, covers with outer border of semi-circles, small diamond and cross tools, repeated in the inner border, with floral tools at corners, central floral ornament built up from smaller tools, initials "S S" on covers, spine gilt-decorated in six compartments, with five raised bands, board edges and turn-ins gilt, comb-marbled pastedowns, two silver clasps (some light wear along spine, inner hinges reinforced). Provenance : Mark Estwicke (inscription dated 1670 on front flyleaf) -- Susanna Shuttleworth (binding; inscription dated 1695 on front flyleaf) -- Estelle Doheny (morocco bookplate; purchased from Maggs Bros., London, 16 February 1942) -- donated to SMS 1942.
