Edited by Elias Hutter (1553-1605). Hamburg: Johann Saxo, 1587. 2 o (385 x 248 mm). Hebrew and Roman types. (Some light browning.) Contemporary blind-stamped pigskin over wooden boards, brass clasps and catchplates (light rubbing to joints and edges). Provenance : Bernhard Wagner (ownership inscription dated 1625 on title); Elias Andreas Prenger (ownership inscription dated 1709 on title); Sindelfingen, Jeremias Ruoff (inscription dated 1712 on title); Jeremias Höslin (name on endpaper); G.H. Palmer (presentation inscription dated 1868); Frederic Palmer (bookplate); Cambridge, Episcopal Theological School (bookplate). "Hutter's Hebrew Bible." The earliest production of an Hebrew press in Hamburg. "In this edition the root letters are printed in thick type, and the inflectinal letters in hollow type; and when a root letter in any word does not appear, it is printed in small type above the line" (Darlow & Moule 5108).
