BIBLE, in Latin -- Biblia sacra iuxta vulgatam, edited by Jean Benoît Paris: Simon de Colines, for Galliot du Pré, October-November 1541. 2° (370 x 250mm.), large woodcut initials (some light staining, a few spots, HH1 torn without loss affecting a few letters, hole at inner margin of title and in final index leaf not touching letters), 17th-century calf, spine gilt in compartments (lettering-piece torn away, rubbed and scuffed, a few narrow strips torn on lower cover), bookplate (1). Adams B1025; BM STC French , p. 54; Schreiber Colines 175. A rare edition of the first edited by Jean Benoît No copy in NUC; the copy there does not, according to Schreiber, correspond to this edition. Benoît consulted Hebrew and Greek manuscripts and printed editions for his work. Estienne's index at the end contains the first Hebrew type used by Colines.
