BIBLE, Latin. Biblia Hebrae, Chaldae, Graeca & Latina, nomina... Paris: Robert Estienne, 1540-39-38. 4 parts in one volume, 2 o (432 x 290 mm). Numerous woodcut illustrations, some full page and large woodcut initials ALL COLORED BY A CONTEMPORARY HAND. (Some worming at beginning and end, title and a few other leaves with marginal repairs.) Contemporary calf (covers detached, worn); cloth folding case. Provenance : Regensburg, "Conventus Ratisbonensis F.F. Ord. Praed" (bookplate); Munich, Royal Library (ink stamp); Samuel H. Turner (ink stamp); Philadelphia Divinity School (bookplate and perforated stamp). Robert Estienne's third folio edition. "The text of this edition represents a further revision on the same lines as that of 1528, but based on a larger number of MSS. A list given at the end of the preface enumerates at least 16 MSS" (Darlow & Moule 6117); Adams B-1022.
