BIBLE, New Testament, Greek -- Tes kaines diathekes hapanta [graecè] ... Nouum Iesu Christi D.N. Testamentum . Paris: Robert Estienne, 1550. 2 volumes in one, 2° (334 x 213mm). Woodcut basilisk device on titles, Estienne's other device on last page, the 6 pages of the Eusebian canons set within frames decorated with woodcut cherubs and architectural ornament, woodcut headpieces and initials (first title a little soiled and stained, a few light stains). 18th-century sprinkled calf, double gilt fillet round sides enclosing a border à la Du Seuil with decorative cornerpieces, red edges (rebacked with most of original spine preserved, covers a little scuffed, corners worn). Provenance : Henry Dixon 1807 (presented to him by Henry H. White) - Paul H. Beves (bookplate). Third Estienne edition, known as the 'Editio Regia', probably the first issue with the headpiece on H7 r with a cherubic head. Not only distinguished for its critical apparatus, Renouard also says of it 'ce volume, dû à la diligence et sagacité personnelles de Robert, suffiroit seul pour assurer sa réputation comme savant littérateur et typographe distingué'. Adams B1661; Renouard 75/1; Mortimer 78.
