Boston: Cummings and Hilliard, 1817-18-20. 3 vols., dark green half morocco gilt, t.e.g., by Worsfold, spines faded, joints rubbed, most inner hinges split, plates 20 and 41 foxed, minor spotting to approximately 18 plates, some offsetting of text to plates, marginal tear to a text leaf in vol. 1 . FIRST EDITION, 60 hand-colored or color-printed plates (plates 1-10 hand-colored etchings, the remainder tinted aquatints, most with a touch of added hand-coloring), vol. 1 paginated [i]-xi, 18-197, as called for by contents leaf. Garrison-Morton 1842; Heirs of Hippocrates 846 ("...one of the finest botanical treatises ever printed in America"); Nissen BBI 164. Provenance : Dr. Evan Morton Evans (1870-1955) Daniel Webster Evans (1907-1966). (3)
