BIONDI, GIOVANNI FRANCESCO Donzella Desterada, Or, The Banish's Virgin. Written originally in Italian ... London: T. Cotes for Humphrey Mosley, 1635. First edition. Full early calf. 11 1/2 x 7 1/2 inches (29 x 18.5 cm); [12], 230 pp., collating A^(4) [a]^(2) B-2G^(4) (lacking the final leaf 2G4, a blank). Binding worn, modern rebacking, head of spine a bit frayed, the title with a long restored tear and a small loss in the blank outer margin repaired with an adhered slip of old paper on the verso, otherwise generally clean, the Duke of Sussex copy (with his first bookplate) on the original pastedown (visible through a cut-out), also with John Cannon's bookplate, and with William Sterling Maxwell's notes on the front free endpaper. A scarce work, translated by James Hayward (of Gray's Inn), who is addressed with laudatory verses by William Stansby, Thomas Revell and others. The headpiece on A2, repeated A4, appears in the First Folio of Shakespeare. ESTC S107083 . C
