Bleichröder, who acted as the Berlin branch for Rothschilds, was both Bismarck's private banker and looked after loans and credit transfers for the Prussian state and later the German Empire; he organised the finance for the Austro-Prussian War in 1866. Bleichröder was ennobled at Bismarck's instance in 1872.
