Blackmore (Richard Doddridge, novelist and fruit farmer, author of "Lorna Doone", 1825-1900) 4 Autograph Letters to Philip H. Calderon & 1 Autograph Postcard signed to Mr Bragard, together 10pp. 1 side & 1 envelope, 8vo & 90 x 114mm., 5th June - 7th July 1885 & 10th February 1899, answering some questions for the illustrations Calderon is preparing for his novel The Old Well of Saint John, "The old well (famous for its anti-tidal, or rather para-tidal rise & fall) is two or three hundred yards south of the church of Newton-Nottage, Glamorganshire... . The walls & roof are of rough stone & shingle...", folds, postcard water-stained and with text slightly obscured; and a small quantity of letters, including: Edward Gordon Craig (correspondence and sending designs for a bookplate to W.H. Downing), Gerald Du Maurier, G.F. Watts, William Black, Alfred Noyes etc., folds, v.s., v.d. (sm. qty). ⁂ Philip Hermogenes Calderon (1833-98), painter.
