Amsterdam: Johann Blaeu, 1647. 2 parts in one volume, 2 o (513 x 338 mm). Engraved hand-colored titles HEIGHTENED IN GOLD, each with printed slips pasted in the proper place, 91 DOUBLE-PAGE MAPS ALL COLORED BY A CONTEMPORARY HAND (one large folding map). (A few maps with clean tears to folds, first map of Virgina with tiangular tear to fold of lower margin.) Publisher's vellum gilt over pasteboards, the sides paneled with fillets and roll tools, large gold-blocked corner-ornaments, and large central gilt arabesques, remnands of silk ties, gilt edges (some light rubbing and darkening). Provenance : The Orange-Nassau Library, Dillenburg, Germany ("Zur fürstlichen Cantzley auf Dillenburg gehörig. 1665" inscription on title, "Ad Bibliothecam Principalem Arausio-Nassauiensem Dillenburgicam" bookplate on verso of title, and gift inscription dated 18 February 1665 on front paste-down). A FINE, CLEAN COPY of the second volume of the German edition of Blaeu's Theatrum orbis terrarium sive Novus Atlas. with maps of France, Spain, Africa, Asia and 15 maps of the Americas, which include the western Hemisphere, New England, Virginia, Florida, the West Indies, Bermuda, Mexico, Central America, Venezuela, Guiana, Brazil, Paraguay, Chili, Peru and the Straits of Magellan. The map China veteribus which is eradicated from the Register, was probably never included in this volume. Alden & Landis 647/30; Koeman Bl 34; Sabin 5719.
