Text in German. 2 engraved architectonic titles, and 90 (of 92) double-page maps, all coloured by a contemporary hand. (Lacking the large folding-map, Van der Krogt no.46, and China no.71, light spotting throughout, marginal dampstaining to second part, more heavily affecting maps nos 65, 66, 68, 69, 70, 72, 73, 77, 79, 80, and 81.) Contemporary vellum panelled in gilt, gilt edges, green silk ties (sometime recased with later endpapers, light soiling, extremities rubbed with chip to fore-edge of upper cover, gilded arabesque on lower cover partially worn away). Provenance : Johann, King of Saxony (1801-1873, crowned monogram in margin of title) – Saxon State and University Library, Dresden (de-accession stamp). The second volume of the German edition of Blaeu's Theatrum orbis terrarium sive Novus Atlas, with maps of France, Spain, Africa, Asia and 15 maps of the Americas, which include the western Hemisphere, New England, Virginia, Florida, the West Indies, Bermuda, Mexico, Central America, Venezuela, Guiana, Brazil, Paraguay, Chili, Peru and the Straits of Magellan. The map China veteribus , no.71 seemingly never bound in this copy. Van der Krogt II, 2:232.2J (noting this copy lacking the folding map).
