Amsterdam: Johannes and Cornelius Blaeu, 1640 [but 1643-1645]. Volume II only, 2 parts in one volume, 2° (495 x 328mm). Text in French, mounted on guards throughout, single index leaf at end, 18th-century manuscript index at beginning. Engraved architectural title-pages with letterpress overslips, with another copy of the first title dated 1645 loosely inserted, 92 double-page engraved maps of France, Spain, Asia and the Americas, one folding, all coloured by a contemporary hand, woodcut initials and tailpieces. (7 leaves at beginning with defective top-corner affecting first title and first map, leaf Asia.F2 with short marginal tear and hole to signature, this incorrectly signed in ink 'E2', some light creasing, browning and offsetting.) Contemporary vellum, panelled in gilt, gilt edges (extremities rubbed, lightly soiled, lacking ties). 'This edition ... is a much more advanced one than the edition of 1638/1640. The text has been reset' (Van der Krogt). Second edition of volume II of the French edition of the Blaeus' Novus Atlas , containing maps of Asia, Arabia and the Americas.
