The time trial was held during the Grande Semaine d'Aviation at Reims, and consisted of two laps of the 10 kilometer circuit. Curtiss won this first competition, completing the course in 15 minutes and 50 seconds; Blériot took six seconds longer. The Trophy was funded by the eponymous publisher of the New York Herald.
