Types: 1:175G; 5:80G. 3- to 5-line initial spaces, most with guide-letters, those at the beginning with red initials, red paragraph marks and capital strokes. (Neat paper flaw in one leaf, occasional small stain.) 17th-century German blind-tooled panelled pigskin over reverse-bevelled wooden boards, supralibros at centre of covers of a cardinal's device gilt-tooled on russet leather, russet leather spine label, two brass fore-edge clasps, green edges (endpapers renewed). Provenance : Constance, contemporary purchase? note, and note of ownership of brother Jacobus Vaick (inscriptions trimmed or lightly deleted from title -- unidentified cardinal (binding) -- [Italian bookseller's description pasted in -- red library stamp on front cover] -- CHARLES HAROLD ST. JOHN HORNBY (1867-1946; book-label and bookplate) -- Walter Hirst (bookplate); by descent. Fourth edition of a compilation of shorter works, both genuine and spurious. Contents of the early editions differ; the present edition includes for the first time the life of St Bonaventura by Octavianus de Martinis but omits 'Laudismus de sancta cruce', which had appeared in the first and third editions.
