Collation: a-z 8; A-D 8 E 6 F 8 G-H 6 I 8 K-P 6 (a1r title, a1v blank, a2r Sermones de tempore , z8 blank; A1r Sermones de sanctis , N6v colophon, O1r index, P6 blank). 285 leaves (of 286, without the final blank). 45 lines and headline, double column. Types: 4:175G (title and headlines), 5:95G (text). Two- to nine-line initial spaces. Unrubricated. (Intermittent faint dampstains to blank margins, old repair to g8, printing flaw to o7 from creased paper, a few light stains, a few small wormholes to first and last quires.) Binding : contemporary blind-tooled German pigskin over wooden boards (slight wear, the back joint cracking, a few small wormholes): the covers tooled with quintuple fillets to a concentric set of rectangular frames and panels, the intersections of the fillets marked with a small rosette, the compartments filled with a large leaf-shaped tool and a small repeating foliage tool, a large rosette in the center of each cover, the tools not in Kyriss or Schwenke-Sammlung ; plaited leather headbands; one brass clasp. Provenance : contemporary notes on back pastedown -- scattered early marginalia -- Casparus Guldischuoch: signature dated 1566 on front and back pastedowns -- Mathias: early signature on back pastedown -- Waldshut (diocese of Constance), Capuchins: 17th-century inscription on a1r -- Eric Sexton: bookplates; sale, Christie's New York, 8 April 1981, lot 140. Third edition and the first of two editions printed by Johann Otmar. Otmar, the second printer at Reutlingen after Michael Greyff, worked there from 1482 to 1495; in 1498 he became the prototypographer of Tbingen, and in 1502-1514 he was active in Augsburg. RARE.
