First edition of Borghini's dialogue set in a villa called "Il Riposo" near Florence. It describes in great detail the works of art in Florentine houses and churches and the society of Florentine art collectors, providing important contemporary information about late sixteenth-century Florentine art (and villa life in general). It contains a detailed index of people and subjects, and was reissued in 1730.

Woodcut printer's device on title-page, woodcut illustration on *2v, woodcut initials and tailpieces. (Some foxing or staining, stain at foot of gutter of quire Bb, woodcut illustration shaved at foredge, headlines cut close at end.)
binding: Later vellum (165 x 120 mm), flat spine gilt with morocco lettering-piece, blue edges. (A few small wormholes in binding.)
