BOSTON TEA PARTY] DRAKE, FRANCIS. Tea Leaves. Being a Collection of Letters and Documents Relating to the Shipment of Tea to the American Colonies in the Year 1773 ... Boston: A.O. Crane, 1884. First edition, an extra-illustrated copy containing original manuscripts relating to prominent participants in the Tea Party and the Revolutionary movement generally, including some prominent British and Tory officials. Two volumes, bound in contemporary three-quarter brown morocco, spine gilt, top edge gilt. 8 3/8 x 7 inches (21.5 x 18 cm); clxxxiv; [2], 189-375 pp., includes three manuscript facsimiles, 76 portraits, maps and other illustrations, some colored, plus 16 original manuscripts or autographs bound in. Minute wear, overall a fine copy. A profusion of extra illustrations including views, portraits and manuscript facsimiles, as well as original manuscript material is bound in. Some of the highlights include an autograph document signed ("J. Hancock"), to Ebenezer Hancock, Boston, 9 November 1772. 1 p., oblong. A hastily penned order for nails: "To deliver the bearer three hundred of pump nails and nothing more;" Samuel Adams. Manuscript document signed ("S. Adams"), as president of the Massachusetts Senate, 26 May 1785. 1 p., an order informing the Lt. Gov. and the Council of the names of newly elected Senators; Thomas Hutchinson. Manuscript document signed, Boston, 21 August 1762. 1 p., A decree in a probate matter; Frederick Lord North, Second Earl of Guildford. Manuscript document signed ("North"), 4 March 1772. Authorizing a payment to Duke of Newcastle for reimbursement of expenses etc. A full list is available on request. Also included (laid in), is a draft autograph letter by John Armstrong with secretarial signature, to the Committee of Correspondence for the County of Northumberland, Carlisle, 5, November 1775. 1 p., 4to, split at center crease, later surveyor's notes (most likely Armstrong's) on the verso. Armstrong writes in his capacity as co-chief (with James Wilson of the Pennsylvania Committee of Correspondence, warning his Northumberland brethren not to take arms against some Connecticut colonists who had settled in Wyoming County in northeast Pennsylvania. Despite the defect, this is a remarkable document, warning against infighting among the colonists on the eve of the Revolution. C
