Engraved title by Jacques van Merlen after Abraham van Diepenbeeck and 50 oval emblematic illustrations in the text by A. Pauli after Dieppenbeck. (I4 with repaired tear, Contemporary Dutch vellum. Provenance : Ambrosius (the Hague, 1641 inscription on title); acquired from Goodspeed's Book Shop, 1978. FIRST EDITION of this charming emblem book contrasting the vanities and the truths of this world and valuable for its depiction of interior scenes, landscapes and streets and buildings of Flemish towns.
