British Pattern 1738 Bright Sea Service Musket, c. 1748, .75 caliber, three screw pattern 1718 lock engraved behind the cock "SMITH/1748" and with crown over "GR" and crown broad arrow government ownership mark below the pan; walnut stock with storekeeper's mark on the left side of the buttstock and inspector's mark behind the trigger guard, rammer channel marked with an "H" between the second and third rammer pipes; octagonal to round barrel with remnants of a Dutch/Germanic proof mark at the breech, brass furniture proper for pattern with the addition of a diamond-shaped thumbpiece engraved "WB," barrel lg. 42, overall lg. 57 3/4 in.
