Beschreibung:

Nice example of a British Pattern 1827 Naval Officer's sword. The sword features a spearpoint blade with single fuller that is elegantly etched. The decorations are contained in an arabesque spire and includes acorns and oak leaves which are intertwined with thick naval rope. The obverse features a nicely etched crowned anchor and the reverse features 2 royal coat of arms, 1 is etched between the decorations while the other is etched just above the ricasso which is marked "MANTON / & CO. / ENGLAND". The ricasso meets the cast brass and gilded guard which features a crowned, fouled anchor. The grip features a grooved, center-swelled wooden handle wrapped in high quality leather which has been elegantly checkered and wrapped with strands of double twisted brass wire which fit neatly into the grooves of the handle. The reverse of the grip is a brass backstrap that resembles the flowing mane of a lion which leads up to the lion's head pommel. Completing the handle is the original sword knot which remains secured to the slot in the knucklebow. The sword is complete with its leather scabbard which features brass mounts and 2 carry rings. The mounts are mostly unadorned with the exception of a few decorative lines. The upper mount is appropriately marked "MANTON / & CO. / ENGLAND" in a shield. CONDITION: The blade remains bright with mostly unmolested decorations. There are a few areas of spotting and light tarnishing. The guard exhibits slight oxidation but remains bright. Grip exhibits light wear, wire remains tight. Backstrap exhibits aging. The leather scabbard exhibits various creases with one significant bend between the mounts. Mounts exhibit a pleasant patina with scattered blemishes. Overall very good. JLD Name Value Blade Length 31 - 1/2" Overall Length 37 - 1/2" Paperwork
