A correspondence of 3 autograph letters signed "F Bowdler" to Fanny Burney "Madame D'Arblay."
Weymouth: 3 September 1818. 2pp., folded sheet with integral address leaf (235 x 190mm). On her leaving Bath and warmly speaking of their friendship. [With:] Lansdown Place: 19 October 1818. 4pp., with integral address panel ( 235 x 190mm). On the loss of Burney’s husband, General D’Arblay in 1818, Burney later docketted the top right corner: “ An equisite letter on my deplored loss and my inconsolable afflliction .” [With:] Lansdown Place: 8 August 1819. 4pp., with integral address panel (235 x 190mm). A melancholic letter concerned with the mourning of her friend, and her “affliction.” Condition: some slight fading to text, evidence of mounting, minimal tape and paper repairs, usual folds. (3). A charming and varied collection of correpondence from Miss Frances Bowdler to Fanny Burney, whom Burney refers to as one of her oldest and dearest friends.
