Autograph letter unsigned, likely by Susanna Burney to her sister Fanny Burney.
N.p., 16-19 December 1790]. 9pp., folded sheets with integral address panel (245 x 205 mm). Condition: postal marks, trace of seal, worn, lightly faded, frayed edges. Provenance sale Sotheby’s London, December 1981. A hopeful letter expressing that the coming year will be less fraught than the present one and discusses “Violetta,” speculates on rumors of engagements and the recent marriage of a male acquaintance. This obscure letter is probably one of those exchanged between Susan and Fanny Burney while the latter was Second Keeper of the Robes at the court (1786-1791). The writer does not identify herself, but certainly references that Susan Burney is the author.
