[Sydney], Australia: printed by R. Howe 1825. 8° signed in fours (188 x 126mm). Half-title, errata at end. 1 folding letterpress table. (First and last few leaves spotted.) Contemporary blue textured roan, covers panelled in blind, the flat spine divided into six compartments by double horizontal rules, lettered in gilt in the second (scuffed, endpapers spotted). Provenance : Henry Dumaresq (1792-1838, presentation inscription to:); Sir George Murray (1772-1846, inscription 'Sir G. Murray, with Col: Dumaresq's respectful Compliments'); Henry B.H. Beaufoy (armorial bookplate); Harold Hamilton Broadmore (armorial bookplate). FIRST EDITION OF THIS VERY EARLY AUSTRALIAN WORK ON WINE-MAKING, by the principal author of the wording of the treaty of Waitangi. Ferguson I, 1004. James BUSBY. Journal of a recent visit to the principal vineyards of Spain and France. Giving a minute account of the different methods pursued in the cultivation of the vine and manufacture of wine. New York: James van Norden for Charle S. Francis and Munroe & Francis in Boston, 1835. 12° in sixes (188 x 108mm). 2pp. publisher's advertisements at rear. (Spotted.) Original cloth-backed boards, paper label to backstrip, lettered 'Visit to the Vineyards of Spain and France by J.Busby.' (spine faded and slightly rubbed with some loss to lettering of label). Provenance : Enoch J. Dole (Rowley, Essex County, Mass., inscription dated 1849); Sylvia[?](inscription dated 1939). THIRD, FIRST AMERICAN, EDITION, adapted slightly from the first edition published in Sydney in 1833 under the title Journal of a tour through some of the vineyards of Spain and France (Sydney: 1833). The second, first London, edition (again slightly revised) was published in London in 1834. Cf. Ferguson II, 1635 & 1750 (1833 and 1834 editions). (2)
