Callot's two emblem books, the Lux Claustri (lot 453) and the "Life of the Virgin in Symbols" are both of great beauty. "The delicate simplicity and poetic conception of the drawings, with their metaphors from nature, gave inspiration to these beautiful books Callot's treatment of the emblems and symbols reflect a sensitive, poetic imagination and a deep interest in symbology" (Bechtel, Callot ).
