Provenance : David Diamond (b.1915), American composer (presentation inscription). FIRST EDITION OF CAPOTE'S FIRST BOOK. PRESENTATION COPY, INSCRIBED BY CAPOTE TO DAVID DIAMOND on the front free endpaper: "For David, who is very kind--with Truman's admiration. March 12 1948." Diamond was a composer who frequently collaborated with writers. (See provenance index for other books inscribed to Diamond.) Capote's first book, a collection of stories, was published when he was just 23. The rear panel of the dust jacket bears the well-known coquettish portrait of Capote by Cecil Beaton.
