Oliver was the commander of the Student Army Unit that is chronicled in this album. Visual and textual record of the Army’s use of the campus and facilities of Carnegie Tech (now Carnegie-Mellon Univ.) for the training of young officers for the World War I army. The photographs show small groups of officers, battalions on parade, morning calisthenics, barracks (including the former gym), mess hall, workshop/classrooms (trainees learning mechanical skills useful to the war effort, auto maintenance, bridge construction, etc.).
