Beschreibung:

CASSINI, OLEG Fashion sketch titled "Mrs. Kennedy-Palais de Versailles-State Dinner." Likely 1961 but possibly later. Pencil and black crayon drawing depicting the gown in full length and vignettes of its front and back, signed in pencil "Oleg Cassini" at center, the upper left corner with pinkish red crayon "Cassini" and titled as above in crayon across the foot. The visible image 10 1/2 x 8 1/2 inches. Matted and framed. Unexamined out of frame . This drawing likely precedes the final decisions made in regards to Mrs. Kennedy's official visit to France in spring 1961. As it turns out, at Versailles Mrs. Kennedy wore a dress by Givenchy, feeling it important to wear one French made dress during their official visit. The gown shown here with a scalloped neckline was made in pink and white straw-lace with a matching stole and was worn to the first official State Dinner with Charles de Gaulle at the Elysee Palace, May 31, 1961. See Oleg Cassini A Thousand Days of Magic , 1995, p. 71. C Estate of Oleg Cassini Oyster Bay Cove Residence, New York
