London: Published by the Author, 1841. 2 volumes, 8 o (238 x 152 mm). 3 engraved maps (one folding), 309 engraved plates, one hand-colored. (Discoloration to endleaves, titles, and some early leaves, folding map reinforced along fold on verso with tape.) Modern quarter calf. Provenance : "Novber 1902" (note in ink on title page of volume 2). FIRST EDITION. The numbering of the plates is highly abnormal: the title page calls for 400 plates, but the terminal plate is captioned "312." There are three unnumbered etchings and plates numbered 101 1/2 and 210 1/2, but no illustrations (as called for) numbered 2, 23, 137, 142, 149, 159, 246, or 247.
