FINE EIGHTEENTH CENTURY FRENCH MANUSCRIPT OF THE TEXTS OF ABOUT 1,500 CHANSONS IN FOUR VOLUMES, ENTITLED "RECÜEIL DE CHANSONS CRITIQUES ET PIECES FUGITIVES TOME I [...IV]", containing the texts of seventeenth- and eighteenth-century chansons, many of a bawdy or libidinous nature, written in brown ink, mainly by one scribe, with titles ("Autre sur lair Italien de Lully"), commentaries and notes added by the scribe in red ink, explaining the political background to the chansons, with references to Voltaire, Buffon, Villette and others, satirical comments of the love-lives of the Ancient Greeks, also including "Lettre de Mr de Marigny a son altesse Royalle" (in volume 1), a "Lettre de Louis XIV à Louis XV", a "Parodie de l'oraison funebre du Cardinal de Fleury " (in volume 4), together with other satirical letters and epigrams, calligraphic title-pages to each volume, French provenance, c.1780, 4 volumes, folio (35 x 22.5cms), c.1,800 pages in all, later calf in period style, spine gilt in compartments, retaining all original gilt spine-compartments and gilt arms laid into covers (arms of Charles-Louis-Joseph-Alexandre de Canouville, marquis de Raffetot [Olivier fer no.1513]), Grecian borders, book-plates of Henri Prunières and the Countess de Chambure, some damp-staining,
