Autograph letter signed ('your kind father C.R.') to [his illegitimate daughter Charlotte, Countess of Lichfield], n.p., 3 April [1683], one page, 4to , autograph address leaf, red wax seal. A delightfully supportive letter to a favourite child: 'I thinke it a very reasonable thing that other howses should not looke into your house without your permission, and this note will be sufficient for Mr Survaieor to builde up your wall as high as you please'. The king asks her not to 'preiudice' the corner house which her sister Sussex is to have. Charlotte (1664-1718) and her sister Anne, Countess of Sussex, were the King's daughters by Barbara Villiers, Duchess of Cleveland. He was said to be particularly attached to Charlotte, whose sweet nature was very different from her mother's waspishness.
