CHARLES WHITE (1918 - 1979) Untitled (Two Women at Window). Watercolor and pencil on paper, with gouache additions, 1937. 216x165 mm; 8 3/4x6 1/2 inches. Signed and dated in pencil twice, lower right. Provenance: the estate of the artist; Heritage Gallery, Los ngeles; private collection, Missouri. This very early work on paper is a fascinating, very developed small study by Charles White It appears related to White's large 1939 watercolor Kitchen Debutantes which was included in the recent traveling exhibition Charles White A Retrospective. Both depict young women leaning out of an open window. It appears to be a page taken from one of his earliest sketch books. In the fall of 1937, the young artist began his studies at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
