THE 1988 VINTAGE "Rather like the '86s with which, at one time, they seemed to be level pegging, I now think that the '88s, initially somewhat overrated, are now just about coming into their own as serious long-term clarets." MB, Vintage Wine "Across the board it could be said that the 1988s have finally come of age - they no longer languish in dormancy. Lafite-Rothschild was clearly above the rest but closely followed by the charm exhibited by Haut Brion. Latour as expected was brawny, masculine, rich in flavor. Mouton-Rothschild seem to me to be cut from the same cloth as its 1985 version, good fruit, ripe, medium bodied, not too tannic, clean and clear.
