Château Léoville-Las-Cases--Vintage 1982
1 dozen bottles per lot
Château Léoville-las-Cases Of the three Léovilles, Las-Cases, Poyferré, and Barton, Las-Cases is universally the most admired. The estate, which stretches all the way from the edge of the town of St. Julien to Château Latour in Pauillac, is still one of Bordeaux's largest, though in 1840 the main estate was partially sold to Hugh Barton and Baron de Poyferré. Estate size notwithstanding, Léoville-Las-Cases's wines are made with fanatical precision, once by the late Michel Delon but now by his son, Jean-Hubert-using grapes from the " grand clos ", a vineyard enclosed by a thin wall and marked at the entrance by a large arch and notable Bordeaux landmark. Over time, Léoville-Las-Cases has retained its reputation as the greatest wine of St. Julien. Château Léoville-Las-Cases--Vintage 1982 Saint-Julien, 2me cru classé Lot 21 levels: ten bottom neck, two top shoulder; lightly bin soiled labels, nicked labels. Lot 22 bottom neck or better. Lot 23 bottom neck or better, one nicked label, on elightly corroded capsule All lots in original wooden case "Tasted three times over a two month period, this youthful yet profoundly complex wine gets my nod as the finest Léoville-Las-Cases ever made. It reveals massive proportions yet extraordinary purity, elegance, and balance. This dense ruby/purple-colored 1982 still looks and tastes as if it were 5-8 years old. The nose offers up blazingly well-delineated, pure aromas of creme de cassis, cherry jam, minerals, and toasty new oak. This unctuously-textured, gorgeously rich, pure, super-concentrated, low acid effort concludes with a 45+ second finish. There is still tannin to shed in this unbelievably fresh, lively, full-bodied, vibrant wine." Robert Parker Wine Advocate #129 (Jun 2000) 1 dozen bottles per lot
