(8vo), original decoratively embossed brown cloth stamped in gilt, red, green and white, marbled endpapers, edges untrimmed, top edge gilt. Presented in custom half-leather & marbled board clamshell box with gilt lettering piece. No. 66 of 999 copies of a special "Subscription Edition." First Edition. Signed by Charles Evans Jr. on the limitation page, as issued. With an additional signed inscription by Evans, "Lord Northcliffe: To a fine sportsman and in grateful memory of happy days in Britain. 'Chick' Evans". Alfred Charles William Harmsworth, 1st Viscount Northcliffe was a British newspaper and publishing magnate. As owner of the Daily Mail and the Daily Mirror, he was an early developer of popular journalism, and he exercised vast influence over British popular opinion during the Edwardian era. He was also sponsor to Harry Vardon and Ted Ray in the 1913 US Open—two greats who came up short against the splendid American upstart Francis Ouimet. Murdoch 230; D&M 15990; D&J E8590.
