China Album of photographs of Beijing and the Great Wall, early 1900s Oblong folio (254 x 310mm.), 232 matt silver prints (from 75 x 100m. to 150 x 250mm.), mounted on card, recto and verso, contemporary brown cloth, patterned endpapers, postcard-size photograph of a naval ship mounted on card loosely inserted, some silver mirroring and stains showing through from old adhesive, a few images faded, binding slightly rubbed and marked A good album of views, mostly of Beijing and the Great Wall, including street scenes, traders, children, scenes of conflict, the Summer Palace, views of the city of Beijing and the Forbidden City. The album was possibly compiled by a member of the Austro-Hungarian navy, as the album shows marines in some of the photographs and there is a loose photograph of a naval ship with the Austrian naval flag. The majority of the photographs are postcard size, however there are 10 panoramic photographs and some larger.
