Chinese Export, late 18th century. A sixty-five piece partial porcelain service comprised of one lidded tureen, one smaller covered dish, eleven graduated platters, twenty-six lunch plates, seven soups, eight dessert plates, one tray, two bowls, two gravy boats, one sauce pitcher, two salts, one teapot, and two lidded jars, all decorated with a cobalt blue and gilt pattern and monogrammed B, all unmarked; tureen lg. 14.5, soups dia. 10, lunch plates dia. 9.75, jars ht. 12, larger bowl dia. 8.75 in. Made for General Samuel Blackburn (1759-1835), by tradition, as a wedding gift from the Marquis de Lafayette (1757-1834). Provenance: The Collection of Dr. M. Donald Hayes of Wilmington, Ohio. To be Sold Without Reserve Property from the Collection of Dr. M. Donald Hayes and Jane Telfair. To Be Sold Without Reserve. Condition: Some wear (losses) to the gilt, hairlines, and a few chips to rims
