London: for the Author, 1762. Third and superlative edition of Chippendale’s wildly successful and influential furniture pattern book. The most important of the English furniture books, this particular edition illustrates how Chippendale’s designs evolved over time, with the addition of 40 more plates. Berlin Kat. 1227. Folio (465 x 285mm). Letterpress title, engraved dedication leaf, and 200 engraved plates after designs by Chippendale (final 5 plates with repaired tears affecting printed area, small marginal repairs to title and dedication; some light spotting and dustsoiling). Modern half calf over marbled boards.
